Bothwell Arts Center

ArtWalk Livermore 2010 - A Great Day for Art,

Music and Fun in our Downtown Community

October 9th, 11-5pm

www.artwalklivermore.org

This is a day you don't want to miss -
Over 150 artists from beginners to professionals, with everything from paintings to incredible art quilts,
artful jewelry handcrafted from gems to legos, exquisite pottery and sculpture demonstrations, nudes, realism, expressionistic portraiture ... and so much more!  and all in our lovely downtown.

This year, we offer a limo service to take you and your friends to the Vine Center and sample their offerings,
from the Livermore Poet Laureate's exhibition of poetry written to artworks (Ekphrasis)
to the artists at the Vine Cinema (and check out their new lounge and offerings!).

From there, the next limo stop is at the Art Glass Studio, and if you love glass art, you should make sure to mark this spot as a must see!
It's an easy walk from there to UltraSpectives, check out their incredible photography studio
and some cool outside art and jewelry at the same time
and on to Orghipchick, an awesome clothing boutique
featuring a cool new artist on the scene as well.

From there, take a block's jaunt over to Livermore Art Association Gallery on Third Street -
They always have an arts thing going.

Don't miss  Panama Red Coffee Company for some great caffeine and ambience -
and also  where Bothwell Arts Center studio artists are displaying,
and on into the main scene...

More Highlights:
  • Arts Activities and Craft Vendors on J Street, between First & Second (especially fun for kids)
  • At the Livermore Valley Plaza, get an up-close view of the Art Banners for the first time - and make a bid!   We'll have a wine booth there to make your experience of the art banners, and the excellent music event, even more pleasurable.
  • Food Samplings at several exhibiting restaurants, including The Carvery at Harry's Hofbrau and El Charro Taqueria - and check out El Charro’s wonderful new digs.
  • Don’t miss the working artist studios in the Historic Old Firehouse, right across from the Bankhead Theater.  Lynne Shephard has created the longest-running working artist studio group in the area, with artists with strong voices.  I hear she has a vacancy, and it won't last long!
  • Browse several downtown gallery and art display sites that regularly show local works, including Wild Vine, Panama Red, John Christopher Cellars at Blacksmith Square, and the Ryan Fine Art Gallery downstairs from It's All About Dancing.

Check out the art of dancing, upstairs at Forester's Hall, with student demonstrations throughout the day at It's All About Dancing.

  • Get an up close viewing of the new Firehouse mural commissioned by the City of Livermore, and talk with tVera Gordeev Lowdermilk, he lead artist.
  • View group exhibits from the Sculpture Studio, a group of San Francisco Art Academy graduates at the Bankhead Theater, The Art Glass Studio, , area high schools and district-wide art, Las Positas Community College, the Disabled Veteran's Painting Group, and the award-winning Path to Picasso group with their newly installed murals done on the recycling containers for the Bankhead, as well as the Christ-Centered Arts Festival/Trinity Church group and the Decorative Painting Society.

Our maps will be available in many downtown locations prior to the event.  You can also get more information at www.artwalklivermore.org.

Bothwell Arts Center News:

LARPD's wonderful new Bothwell Park is now in and open behind the Bothwell Arts Center.  It is a lovely spot to take a break during classes, and let brothers and sisters play while waiting for a sibling's violin lesson to end; it should make for a nice spot for plein aire painting, too.  There are picnic tables, a barbecue, a sandbox, a wonderful play area, and even bocce ball courts ... and LARPD even gave the Arts Center a paint job.  Thank you  to our landlords, LARPD.

Camps and Classes at the Bothwell

Many members and friends of the Bothwell have created arts programs designed to enrich the lives of your children—and some fun stuff for you, too!

These camps and classes don’t happen in a sterile environment—they happen at the Bothwell Arts Center, where art is actually created on a daily basis. Home to 11 studio artists, art gym members, music teachers, actors, cultural arts groups and the base for many performing arts groups, the Bothwell is all about freedom to create, and a place to make it happen.

RENT THE BOTHWELL

The Freedom to Create and a Place to Make it Happen

The Bothwell Arts Center serves as an arts incubator, offering affordable and rentable classroom, rehearsal, performance, event and studio rental space for artists, musicians, theatrical, acting, choral, and other individuals, groups or events with a cultural arts focus.  We also offer an inexpensive Art Gym program, allowing artists working room without a large investment.

Since we opened our doors in late 2006, over 9,000 people have benefited from classes, workshops, performances and events at the Bothwell Arts Center, from children to adults.   Frequent renters include the Sycamore Strings Academy, Livermore Opera, Shakespeare's Associates, Livermore Amador Symphony, Pacific Chamber Symphony, SmARTS Unlimited, and many others.  We've been the home to the award-winning City of Livermore's Pathways to Picasso Program, regular visual and performing arts teachers and students, and now an ongoing dance program.
We also offer room rentals for events, with a cultural arts component such as music, an art exhibit, or cultural program.

Overview:

The Bothwell Arts Center is the third component of the Performing Arts Center commitment to serving the Tri-Valley community.  Bothwell Center functions as a home and arts incubator for the visual and performing arts. With space for artist studios, rehearsal rooms, classrooms and several small performance venues, the Center is serving as a much needed support facility for the creation of arts and cultural programs that enrich the lives of adults and children. The Center also provides meeting space for area residents interested in arts and cultural activities.
We do depend on fundraisers for a good portion of our budget.  Our main fundraisers are ArtWalk on the second Saturday of October, and an over-the-top Mardi Gras party we call New Orleans Bash at the Bothwell the Friday before Mardi Gras, generally in February.  Both offer significant exposure for sponsors, opportunities for volunteers and interns who want to get involved in event production, and a lot of fun for the attendees.

Volunteers are always welcome!
